Description

  • Today, Damascus steel is either "cast" or "wrought"
  • Cast Damascus steel is created by melting steel in small earthen cups and subsequently adding various additives according to the blacksmiths recipe. On the other hand wrought Damascus steel is layered, comprised of at least two types of steel or other metals.
  • A soft flexible steel is used in combination with a hard high-carbon steel in dozens or even hundreds of layers.
  • This ingenious and as yet unsupplanted technology of famed Japanese blacksmiths has been able to meld flexible and hard steels in such a way that their unique properties are combined in a unique work of samurai swords.

Technical specifications

  • The DMS series knives are made using wrought technology in 67 layers, melding soft steel VG2 and hard steel VG10. Thanks to this they have acquired their excellent properties – extreme hardness, flexibility and long lifetime.
  • The supplier of the material for our knives are the Japanese steelworks TAKEFU.
  • The handles of the knives are made from maple wood and are modified using the KEBONY method. This technology was developed in Norway and is a patented process that, without the use of damaging substances and toxins, strengthens the cellular structure of the used maple wood and accentuates the first-class qualities of the hardwood, together with its rich brown colour.

Fascinating Damascus steel

Fascinating Damascus steel

Damascus steel is an incredibly durable material manufactured using a technology where multiple types of steel and other metals are layered on top of each other, and the surface is subsequently polished or etched to accentuate the visible structure of these alternating layers.
